Leeds Bi Group has a “talky space” on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, 7-9pm at Mesmac's Leeds building. For more details on how to find Mesmac, please see our Contact Us page.
Our talky spaces are for bi+ people over the age of 18 to get together and discuss any burning issues they have, share experiences and make new friends. Most months, we have a general theme such as coming out, biphobia or resources. Sometimes we have special guests join us to run or contibute to our sessions; in the past we have had guests from Mesmac counselling service talking about what their service offers, we’ve talked about having the "best sex with the least harm" with one of Mesmac’s workers and discussed what constitutes a hate crime and how to report it with one of West Yorkshire Police's Hate Crime Co-ordinators.
Although these spaces can be serious and difficult issues may be discussed, the group is a friendly one, with conversations often evolving into discussions on films, books and other not so bi related topics.
We are always interested in new topics for our groups, so if you have any ideas or would like to volunteer to run a session please get in touch (details on our Contact Us page.
The ground rules for all our talky spaces are:
- Treat other people with respect and respect their lifestyle and culture. Be respectful when talking about other people or groups.
- Realise that some people may find it difficult to come to terms with or talk about their sexuality. Allow people time to talk if they need it, but don’t pressure anyone to do so.
- Respect peoples wishes if they do not wish to talk about something. Please say if you would prefer not to talk about something.
- Keep confidentiality. Do not reveal personal details about anyone in the group and do not discuss people in the group to anyone outside. What’s said in the group, stays in the group.
